6 Bible verses to turn to when feeling depressed

Dealing with depression can be very lonely and overwhelming. Sometimes, gathering the courage to talk to someone about how we are feeling can also be very difficult. It's important to know that you're not alone and that there are valuable, effective resources such as therapy, medication, crisis hotlines via txt, chat and phone that can help treat depression.

If you believe in God, the need to turn to God may come to you.

Here are some bible verses to ease you into getting started:

Psalm 23:4

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

This verse reminds us that God loves us so much that in your darkest moments when everything is difficult and out of your control, He is right by your side, protecting and guiding you on the path forward. Believe it

Psalm 34:17-18

The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

If you are wondering if God is hearing your cry, he is. Remember that even when you’re at your lowest, God still loves you. Be ready to be rescue because this is a promise.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

God is speaking to you here, he knows you are afraid, he knows you are discouraged and so he is affirming that you do not need to be because he is your God and is more powerful than depression. He promises to strengthen and help you. With God on your side, there’s nothing to fear. Place your trust in him.

Matthew 11:28

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

Depression and all it’s associated feelings and emotions can be a very heavy burden and lonely but this verse is a reminder that Jesus has asked us to come to him because he will relieve us of our burdens.

Deuteronomy 31:8

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

God is not going anywhere. He is right there with you.

John16:33

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus’ words here show that he knows that you will experience trying times. He assures you that he has already overcome it. Through faith in him, you will be healed because he has already overcome it.

Ways to be in God’s presence:

Sermons- Listen to a trusted man or woman of God who’s teachings are rooted in the word of God. Listen to teachings that apply to your current situation.

Prayer- the greatest privilege we will ever have. The ability to communicate with God directly about anything. Tell God everything that is on your heart and stay long enough in his presence to feel him or get a response.
